Back to School Cleaning and Organizing

With Labor Day passing, summer is unofficially over. Kids are returning to school, some in person and some virtually, and in comes the waves of piled paperwork and rushed mornings. We have put together some tips to help you keep an organized home while the kids are doing school work.

1. Create a designated school/work area

If your child is doing virtual learning, having a designated area for them to work is a great way to limit clutter in your house as well as get them in a school mindset. It could be a little table in a corner of the house or a section of the dining room table but is important to keep all of their school work in one area. This will keep the possible mess confined to one part of your home rather than small piles all over the house, as well as make it easier for them to pick back up every day in class.

2. Have a Schedule

Having a routine helps everyone stay focused, including you! Having a plan for when kids are getting ready in the morning, to the after school snack, to bedtime will help everyone conquer their day. The schedule should be posted for all to see and will help you know when its a good time to clean their area or schedule time for them to organize it. Make sure a task on your list is getting organized and ready for the next day. </span>

3. Regularly clean their work space

Remote learning can be a new venture for many families, and we recommend wiping down and organizing your child’s workspace daily to ensure they are working at a sanitary station. Not only does daily cleaning help keep your home clean, it also helps overall productivity.

4. Handwashing

Maybe your child will be physically attending classes this fall. If so, encourage hand washing often, have some fun with it by singing a song or telling some jokes while they wash. Establish consistent house rules about hand washing, including every time before family members leave home and come into the home from outside, after going to the bathroom, and before and after eating.

Going back to school is never an easy task, and with COVID-19 things are even more hectic. We hope these tips can ensure you and your child’s productivity and sanitation are a priority in your back to school venture.
