5 Decluttering Tips For Your New Year’s Resolution

With the new year upon us, many consumers have set several goals from themselves such as going to the gym more, getting into a better sleep schedule, and even achieving some personal career goals! This year, let’s explore some decluttering tips to add a cleaner home to your list of resolutions.

Clean your counters at least once a day

Keepings those kitchen counters clean and decluttered will take only a few minutes of your time. Before leaving the house for the day,  relocate any junk mail, snacks, or kitchen utensils that made their way onto the counter. Then wipe your counters down with your choice of cleaning product, and your kitchen counters are clean and ready for your next meal prep!

Make the bed every morning

Making your bed every morning is a very quick and easy task that will leave your room looking much more organized and tidy. Not only is it nice to come home to a clean bed, it’s also  a good habit to get into to start your day off on a productive note!

3. Clean your closet out every few months

We are all guilty of hanging on to too many clothes, especially ones that have signs of wear and tear and are ready to be retired. To make the task of keeping your closet organized simple, start by making three piles: One for donating to your local salvation army or thrift store, one for clothes that need to be thrown away, and one for the clothes you want to keep. You can eliminate unworn clothes by evaluating what you have worn in the past 12 months the most, and what you have barely worn. By doing this a few times a year, your closest will stay fresh and uncluttered with clothes you don’t wear.

4. Do the dishes as you use them

Doing a sink full of dishes can be a daunting task, that’s why we suggest you do the dishes as they get dirty. Waiting to do the dishes at the end of the day or the next day not only leaves your sink a mess, it doesn’t look good to unexpected guests to stop by. Doing your dishes right after you use them means you never have a whole sink to do at once!

5. Tackle your bathroom

A good first step to starting to keep your bathroom organized is to take everything out of all the drawers and cabinets. Throw away any expired products and then separate everything into labeled bins and drawers. Another helpful tip to avoid bathroom clutter is to solely buy products you like to use, as opposed to buying mediocre products that sit unused for months and months.

Getting yourself more organized and keeping it that way can take time, but starting the new year off with some organization goals ensures that your house is a lot less cluttered than it was the year before, and you’re taking the necessary steps to a better home life.
